Human Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Purified from Innovative Research has been purified from Human Platelets. This is a frozen liquid buffered in 20 mM Tris-HCl/ 0.1 M NaCl/ 0.1% Triton X-100/ 1 mM CaCI2/ 0.05% NaN3/ 50% glycerol/ pH 7.4, with a concentration of 1mg/ml. As observed on gels, GPIIb migrates as 136,000 (non-reduced) and 125,000 (reduced), and GPIIIa as 97,000 (non-reduced) and 108,000 (reduced).

Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa is an integrin complex found on platelets that aids in platelet activation by functioning as a receptor for both Factor I (Fibrinogen) and von Willebrand Factor. The Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa complex is formed by calcium-dependent association of Glycoprotein IIb and Glycoprotien IIIa. This complex binds Factor I (Fibrinogen) to platelets, allowing multiple platelets to join together as they attach to the same strands of fibrinogen and form a clot. The coagulation cascade then continues, stabilizing the clot as Factor IIa (Thrombin) converts the soluble fibrinogen into insoluble fibrin strands that are then linked together by Factor XIII, increasing the stability and elasticity of the clot.
