Immunoglobulin M (IgM) is an antibody that plays a role in binding complement component C1 and activating the classical pathway, as well as other activities that are J-chain or Fc receptor dependent. IgM is the largest antibody, and is the first antibody to respond to initial antigen exposure. IgM is mainly produced in the spleen.
