Human Factor II (Prothrombin) Purified from Innovative Research has been purified from human plasma. This is a frozen liquid buffered in 20 mM Tris-HCl/0.1 M NaCl/pH 7.4, with a concentration of 9mg/ml and a purity of greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE analysis (showing no reduction when incubated with 2-mercaptoethanol).
Prothrombin (Coagulation Factor II) is converted to active Thrombin (FIIa) during the coagulation cascade. This happens when Factor Xa and its cofactor, Factor V, together cleave Prothrombin in two, creating a fragment (fragment 1.2, which is formed from the N-terminal Gla domain and two Kringle domains of Prothrombin) and thrombin (containing only the serine protease domain).
